Vercity Canada Receives Prestigious Award for Excellence in Sustainability
Roger Robillard, Vercity Canada’s Compliance Manager at the McGill University Health Centre (MHUC), was extremely excited to share with us all that the facility have received a prestigious award for excellence in sustainability.
This complex site brings together 5 Montreal-area hospitals (Montreal Children Hospital, Cedar Cancer Center, Montreal General Hospital, Royal Victoria Hospital and Thoracic Institute). It’s also home to the McGill University Research Centre. Constructed between June 2010 and November 2014 and 255,000 m2 it is the second largest hospital in Quebec and was awarded LEED© Gold for construction.
Vercity Canada works with the Gestion des infractures Santé McGill consortium, with Atkins Réalis managing and maintaining the assets until 2044. The project has successfully maintained its Leed© certification during operations and is very proud and excited to have been awarded the Prix d’excellence du réseauy de la sant et des services sociaux which recognizes the innovation, commitment and spirit of collaboration integrated into initiatives that are sustainable in many respects. This award distinguishes MHUC as an international symbol of green building leadership that offers users a healthy environment while minimizing impacts on the environment and resources.
The Glen is the first hospital site in Quebec to be LEED Gold certified twice. First in 2016 and again in 2019. The criteria for LEED certification are rigorous and cover six areas: location and transportation, site development, water, energy, materials, and indoor environmental quality (e.g. natural light and clean air). Very few healthcare facilities on the scale of the Glen site have obtained this coveted status. The Glen site is also noteworthy for the sustainable development principles at the heart of its design, construction and operation.
The Award of Excellence in Sustainable Development is therefore recognition that should make us all feel very proud. Congratulations to all!
