Dermatology Centre at Amersham Hospital
Project Summary
The new centre at Amersham community hospital enhances existing Dermatology services with the addition of Minor Operations and Skin Cancer treatments, with adjacent space for laboratory review, located within one department. It is now known as the Skin Centre. The centre has been designed with new air handling systems designed to comply fully with the current HTM 03.01 guides. The scheme includes the refurbishment of an existing building to provide six procedure rooms which are all independently serviced, along with their adjacent support rooms, from six new air handling unit systems.
The scheme included autonomous air handling units to provide resilience during plant failure or maintenance, but also to allow the building to be zoned allowing different systems to be switched off when not in use. Each air handling unit is designed to be energy efficient and uses low temperature heating and chilled water generated by a new air to water heat recovery air source heat pump.

Project Impact
The department now has the necessary uplift in appropriate designated space, to manage increased activity for Dermatology and Skin Cancer services. This new centre will benefit patients in the wider community, ensure services are compliant and address the backlog waiting lists for the Trust.
The new primary heating, cooling and ventilation plant installed for the unit has taken steps towards reducing the need for fossil fuels and high carbon generating technologies at the hospital.
