Oxygen VIE Plant Upgrade
Due to Covid 19, Royal Blackburn Hospital found it necessary to upgrade their Oxygen VIE Plant to cope with the extra demand required for oxygen to the site, so that the Trust can continue providing lifesaving care to their patients throughout the pandemic.
Vercity’s Role
Royal Blackburn Hospital approached Vercity Consultancy to complete the design, procurement, and delivery of the enabling and infrastructure works to facilitate the installation of their new VIE equipment.
This included:
- Principle designer duties
- Design and construction of new concrete slab and hardstanding area
- Installation of new secure fencing
- Design and installation of new power supplies and lightning protection
- Facilitation of upgrading VIE Plant
- QA/ QC of new equipment
The project was led by Vercity Consultancy, with a collaborative team including design by Sharp & Scarffe Ltd and Redworth Associates, Cost Consultancy by O’Neil & Partners and Principal Contracting by Walter Carefoot & Sons (Construction) Ltd.
Challenges
This work had to be carried out without interrupting the oxygen supply to the hospital, so a detailed programme to switch over from the old equipment to a temporary installation and then finally on to the new equipment was coordinated and managed by Vercity.
Result and Impact
As this was a critical project for the Trust, Vercity were instructed with tight deadlines to complete the enabling works, to allow installation of the new equipment.
Vercity worked closely with design teams and contractors to ensure that the works were completed on time and ready for installation of the new equipment by Air Products on behalf of the Trust.
